Two Local Fathers from District 12 Die in a Mining Explosion

District 12 - October 28th, 2310 – The citizens of District 12, a section of Appalachia, were astonished today to hear about the death of two local miners. At , on October 27th, 2310, a massive explosion was heard up to 5 kilometres away.

Shortly after several miners reached safety, was learned that both Mr. Everdeen, the father of 12 year old Katniss Everdeen, her sister Primrose Everdeen, and Mr. Hawthorn, the father of 14 year old Gale Hawthorn, had been killed. It is reported that they ran out of fresh air after being covered by rocks and dirt.

Mr. Sam Fisher, the mine manager stated, “The loss was a great one and we plan to pay for the funerals.”

As families rushed to the mine, they saw many emergency vehicles and lots of people standing around shocked at what had occurred.

“This mining has been madness,” said Gale Hawthorn who was the eldest son of one of the dead miners. “I am going to miss my father so much and now we are concerned about having enough money to pay for our food.

A funeral is planned for Saturday, October 31st. All District 12 families are invited to attend. A special investigation will take place to find out what caused the explosion.
